Climate change is the greatest existential crisis we face today. Greenhouse gas emissions are causing increases in global average air and ocean temperatures. Rising global sea levels and changes in atmospheric and ocean circulation and regional weather patterns are influencing seasonal rainfall conditions. As capitalists line their pockets, all life on earth is being driven to extinction.

For decades the liberal-bourgeois Australian Labor Party (ALP) have portrayed themselves as a party fighting for workers’ rights, but nothing could be further from the truth. With every small immediate gain the Labor Party have granted to the proletariat, they have also introduced measures and reforms which have effectively cut off the legs of Australia’s trade unions.

The concept of “mutual aid” is not just some abstract idea, dreamed up by idealistic academics. It is already practiced widely in working class communities, where mates helping each other out in hard times is already part of our national culture. There is already an impulse to assist our peers and friends and we trust they will reciprocate when we need their help.

The 2019 federal election was billed as the “un-loseable election” with Newspoll predicting the ALP would form government with 77 seats. Even Sportsbet was so confident in a Labor win that they paid out early to punters. Of course, events on election night showed just how wrong pundits were.
