Resolution On US Aggression Against Iran

May Day poster produced by the Tudeh Party of Iran, 1980

The founding Congress of the Australian Communist Party expresses its solidarity with the people of Iran as they face an escalation of aggression from the US and its imperialist allies. Crippling anti-people sanctions have been inflicted on the people of the country and there is now open discussion of a military invasion. This eventuality would lead to massive loss of life, destruction of a sovereign country and threaten world peace. The results of this type of outrage have already been witnessed in Iraq, Syria and Libya. It must not be allowed to happen in Iran.

The ACP demands that the sovereignty of nations must be respected and that changes to their government are matters for their people alone. The Party supports progressive forces in Iran in their struggle to remove the reactionary theocratic regime of mullahs and to advance towards socialism. Imperialist forces do not have the interests of the Iranian people at heart and we do not support political forces in Iran that seek to enlist the imperialists in their efforts to remove the regime of the mullahs.

“The results of this type of outrage have already been witnessed in Iraq, Syria and Libya. It must not be allowed to happen in Iran”

The ACP will give solidarity to those striving for sovereignty and social justice. We welcome solidarity from progressive forces in our struggle to remove US bases and to end the US alliance that has cost so many of our people’s lives and loss of opportunities due to the cost of Australia’s contribution to the imperialist war machine.
